Well Old Man Winter is doing his best to remind us that winter ain't over til it's over. For the week I measured a whopping 0.06" of precip, half from 0.5" of snow and the rest from freezing rain topped with a trace of snow. The NWS forecasts were accurate and hopefully they will continue. And cold temps have returned for what looks like a while. Area waterways continue to slowly drop and are definitely on the low side. Some ponds at the local golf course are precipitously low and are in need of some significant precipitation. So it seems like moderately dry soil conditions have arrived despite the frozen surface. The ground remains mostly brown, the trees mostly gray, and the sky a fair mix of clouds and sun. With a glaze of ice on my driveway the other day, topped with a trace of snow, ideal tracking conditions prevailed, as I was able to detect what I believe were coyote, racoon, squirrel and rabbit tracks. It was a busy night, no doubt about it.
