General Awareness Energy Fire
| FIRE - Remains the same, HIGH, as no significant precipitation is reported for last week.
ENERGY - We’re consuming more energy as both Nighttime and Daytime temperatures have been about 7° above normal. That’s 60° morning low and around 79° TO 83° High in the afternoon. The humidity has also been higher than normal, and yet we have not gotten any precipitation. Our Lanai Cage Screen has been holding droplets of water most of the week, and dense fog was around most mornings.
GENERAL - dry conditions with above average temperatures and no precipitation has resulted in high Fire risk and more energy consumption. |

| Well Old Man Winter is doing his best to remind us that winter ain't over til it's over. For the week I measured a whopping 0.06" of precip, half from 0.5" of snow and the rest from freezing rain topped with a trace of snow. The NWS forecasts were accurate and hopefully they will continue. And cold temps have returned for what looks like a while. Area waterways continue to slowly drop and are definitely on the low side. Some ponds at the local golf course are precipitously low and are in need of some significant precipitation. So it seems like moderately dry soil conditions have arrived despite the frozen surface. The ground remains mostly brown, the trees mostly gray, and the sky a fair mix of clouds and sun. With a glaze of ice on my driveway the other day, topped with a trace of snow, ideal tracking conditions prevailed, as I was able to detect what I believe were coyote, racoon, squirrel and rabbit tracks. It was a busy night, no doubt about it. |

| Conditions seem to be mildly dry due to lack of large snow events. A few periods of rain and freezing rain have occurred, however totals were not very high. As for actual conditions, the ground appears to be frozen. I have not seen any emerging plant life yet. Temperatures seem to be right around normal for this time of the year. In a sign of warmer days to come, sand hill cranes have started their migration back north across this area. The last two days being the most sand hill cranes I've seen in a long time. I've also seen some robins and heard a red-wing black bird yesterday. |

| Near record high temperatures in the mid eighties started the spring like weather week off. Overcast skies were prevalent in the mornings and bright sunshine in the afternoons. The lawn was slow to dry. Flower beds are a couple of days from being dry enough to work the soil. Large containers of winter flowers needed irrigation. Leaf buds are swelling on cherry bark oaks and bald cypress trees are in bloom. Winter weeds are blooming profusely and it’s past time for herbicide applications. No lawn fertilizer for at least another month when the grass may begin to grow. Lots of wild birds are at the feeding table. |
